Billy Cobham is a Panamanian-American drummer, composer, and bandleader born in Colón, Panama, in 1944. He is widely recognized as one of the most influential drummers in jazz fusion, known for his powerful technique and innovative approach to rhythm. Cobham gained prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s through collaborations with Miles Davis and John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. His solo debut album, Spectrum (1973), is considered a landmark in jazz fusion, showcasing his compositional skills and virtuosic drumming. Throughout his career, Cobham has worked with numerous jazz and fusion artists, released over a dozen solo albums, and maintained an active presence as both a performer and educator in the jazz community.
