Bio
Robert Smith (born 21 April 1959) is an English musician, singer, songwriter and guitarist best known as the frontman of the rock band The Cure. Born in Blackpool and raised in Crawley, Sussex, he co-founded the band in 1976 and has remained its only constant member through numerous line-up changes. Smith’s distinctive voice, guitar style and image—marked by heavy make-up and back-combed hair—helped define the gothic-rock and post-punk scenes of the late 1970s and 1980s. The Cure’s albums, from Seventeen Seconds (1980) to the multi-platinum Disintegration (1989), established the group as one of Britain’s most influential alternative acts. Beyond The Cure, Smith has collaborated with artists such as Siouxsie and the Banshees and produced records for other musicians. He continues to lead the band, which remains active in both recording and touring.
