Madeleine Peyroux is an American jazz singer and guitarist known for her distinctive, Billie Holiday-inspired vocal style. Born in Athens, Georgia, she began performing on the streets of Paris as a teenager before releasing her debut album Dreamland in 1996. Peyroux gained wider recognition with her 2004 album Careless Love, which featured covers of songs by Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, and Elliott Smith. Her subsequent releases have blended jazz standards with contemporary material, establishing her as a prominent figure in vocal jazz.
