Bio

Papa Michigan is a Jamaican deejay best known as one half of the reggae duo Michigan & Smiley. Born Anthony Fairclough in Jamaica, he rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s with his distinctive toasting style and socially conscious lyrics. The duo’s hits such as "Rub a Dub Style" and "Nice Up the Dance" helped define the early dancehall sound and remain staples of reggae sound-system culture. Michigan has also recorded under the Christian-reggae banner, continuing to perform and record both solo and in partnership with Smiley.
