Tone-Loc is an American rapper and actor born Anthony Terrell Smith on March 3, 1966, in Los Angeles, California. He rose to prominence in the late 1980s with his distinctive deep voice and humorous, laid-back delivery. His breakthrough came with the 1989 single "Wild Thing," which became one of the first rap songs to reach the Billboard Hot 100's top 10, peaking at number two. The follow-up "Funky Cold Medina" also became a major hit, helping his debut album "Lōc-ed After Dark" reach number one on the Billboard 200. Beyond music, Tone-Loc has appeared in films such as "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and provided voice work for animated projects including "FernGully: The Last Rainforest." His contributions helped bring rap music into mainstream American pop culture during its early commercial breakthrough period.
