Bio
Sigur Rós is an Icelandic band formed in Reykjavík in 1994. Their music is characterized by ethereal soundscapes, soaring melodies, and the distinctive falsetto vocals of lead singer Jónsi. The group blends elements of dream pop and post-rock, often incorporating classical instrumentation and experimental production techniques. The band gained international recognition with albums such as Ágætis byrjun (1999) and ( ) (2002), which showcased their signature style of building from quiet, ambient passages to powerful crescendos. Their lyrics are frequently sung in Icelandic or Hopelandic, a made-up language created by the band, adding to their otherworldly aesthetic.
