DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince were an American hip hop duo formed in Philadelphia in 1985. The group consisted of DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jeffrey Townes) and rapper The Fresh Prince (Will Smith). They gained prominence with their debut album Rock the House in 1987, which included the hit single "Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble." The duo released several successful albums throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, including He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper (1988) and Homebase (1991). Their music was characterized by lighthearted, radio-friendly lyrics and innovative DJ techniques. They won the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for "Parents Just Don't Understand." The partnership effectively ended in 1994 when Will Smith transitioned to a successful acting career, though the duo has occasionally reunited for performances and recordings.
