Peter Schmalfuss (1937–2008) was a German classical pianist born in Berlin. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and later in Paris, establishing himself as a performer of both standard repertoire and French impressionist works. Schmalfuss recorded extensively for labels such as Naxos and FSM, focusing on composers including Debussy, Ravel, Chopin, and Beethoven. His interpretations were noted for clarity and attention to stylistic detail. Active as both a recitalist and concerto soloist, he performed throughout Europe and taught piano for many years, contributing to the post-war generation of German pianists.
