Bio
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an American country rock group formed in Long Beach, California in 1966. Over more than five decades the band has blended bluegrass, country, and rock into a distinctive sound that has remained popular across generations. The group is best known for its 1970 album Will the Circle Be Unbroken, which brought together contemporary country-rock musicians with legendary bluegrass and country artists such as Earl Scruggs, Maybelle Carter, and Doc Watson. This collaboration helped bridge generational gaps within American roots music and remains a landmark recording. Continuing to record and tour, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has maintained a rotating lineup anchored by founding member Jeff Hanna. Their catalog spans traditional bluegrass, mainstream country hits, and country-rock anthems, reflecting the breadth of American popular music from the late 1960s to the present.
