Roy Orbison was an American singer-songwriter and musician born in Vernon, Texas, in 1936. He rose to prominence in the late 1950s with a distinctive operatic voice and a series of rock and roll hits that blended rockabilly, country, and pop influences. Orbison's career spanned several decades, during which he produced enduring classics such as "Only the Lonely," "Crying," and "Oh, Pretty Woman." His emotive vocal style and dramatic ballads set him apart from many contemporaries, earning him a lasting place in the history of popular music. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and continued to influence generations of artists until his death in 1988.
