Bio
Annunzio Paolo Mantovani (1905–1980) was an Anglo-Italian conductor, composer and arranger whose lush, cascading string sound became a hallmark of mid-20th-century easy-listening music. Born in Venice and raised in England, he formed his first orchestra in the 1920s and achieved international fame in the 1950s with hits such as “Charmaine” and the cascading “Mantovani sound.” His recordings, noted for their cascading “tumbling strings” effect, sold millions and helped define the orchestral pop genre.
