Bio
Dick Dale (1937–2019) was an American guitarist widely credited with pioneering surf rock. Born Richard Anthony Monsour in Boston, he moved to Southern California as a teenager and quickly became a fixture on the Orange County club circuit. His blistering, reverb-drenched instrumentals—most famously “Misirlou” and “Let’s Go Trippin’”—captured the sound and spirit of the early-1960s surf scene. Dale’s aggressive, staccato picking style and custom left-handed Stratocaster influenced countless guitarists, while his live shows at the Rendezvous Ballroom helped define the Southern California surf sound. He continued to record and tour into the 2010s, maintaining a devoted following until his death in 2019.
