Kool Shen, born Bruno Lopes on February 9, 1966, in Saint-Denis, France, is a pioneering figure in French rap. He first gained prominence as one half of the influential duo Suprême NTM, formed in the late 1980s, whose raw, socially conscious lyrics helped define the sound and attitude of French hip-hop. Beyond his work with NTM, Kool Shen has maintained a solo career, releasing albums that blend hardcore rap with introspective themes.
