Bio

Audra McDonald is an American actress and singer celebrated for her work in musical theater. Born in Berlin, Germany, in 1970, she grew up in the United States and trained at the Juilliard School. She has won six Tony Awards, more performance wins than any other actor, for roles in productions such as Carousel, Ragtime, A Moon for the Misbegotten, Porgy and Bess, and Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. Beyond Broadway, McDonald has appeared in film and television, including recurring roles on Private Practice and The Good Fight. She is also an acclaimed recitalist and recording artist whose albums span musical theater, classical art song, and jazz. Known for her wide vocal range and expressive phrasing, she remains one of the most prominent figures in contemporary American musical theater.
