Conchita Wurst is the stage persona of Austrian singer Thomas Neuwirth, who was born in Gmunden, Austria, on 6 November 1988. Neuwirth created the character in 2011, presenting Conchita as a bearded drag queen to promote tolerance and challenge gender norms. Wurst gained international recognition after winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix," representing Austria.
