Art Garfunkel is an American singer, poet, and actor best known for his partnership with Paul Simon in the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. Born Arthur Ira Garfunkel on November 5, 1941, in Forest Hills, New York, he rose to fame in the 1960s with hits such as "The Sound of Silence," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and "Mrs. Robinson." His clear tenor voice and harmonic interplay with Simon helped define the folk-rock sound of the era. After the duo disbanded in 1970, Garfunkel pursued a solo career, releasing albums like Angel Clare (1973) and scoring hits including "All I Know" and "I Only Have Eyes for You." He has also appeared in films such as Catch-22 and Carnal Knowledge. In addition to music, Garfunkel has published poetry and walked across much of the United States and Europe, chronicling his journeys in writing.
