Bio
The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982 by singer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr. They rose to prominence in the UK during the mid-1980s with their jangle-pop sound and literate, often melancholic lyrics. The group released four studio albums including The Queen Is Dead before disbanding in 1987. Their influence on indie and alternative rock remains significant.
