Bio
Charles Dutoit is a Swiss conductor born in Lausanne in 1936. He studied at the Lausanne and Geneva conservatories and later in Siena, and made his professional debut in 1959. Over the following decades he became internationally known for his work with orchestras such as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. His recordings, particularly of French repertoire and Russian orchestral works, have received wide acclaim. Dutoit has also served as artistic director and principal conductor for several ensembles and has been recognized with numerous honors for his contributions to classical music.
