Cheb i Sabbah (born August 7, 1947, in Constantine, Algeria; died November 23, 2013) was a DJ and producer who blended North African traditional music with electronic and world-beat styles. After moving to the United States in the late 1960s, he became a prominent figure in the San Francisco Bay Area club scene, curating events that showcased global sounds. His recordings, such as the "Shri Durga" and "La Kahena" albums, fuse Sufi qawwali, Gnawa rhythms, and other regional traditions with downtempo and ambient electronica. He released music on Six Degrees Records and performed internationally, helping to popularize North African and South Asian music within the world-electronica genre.
