Bio
André Previn was an American pianist, conductor, composer, and arranger born in Berlin in 1929. He fled Nazi Germany as a child and settled in Los Angeles, where he began working in film studios as a teenager. Previn won four Academy Awards for his film scores and later became a leading classical conductor, serving as music director of the London Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. He was equally at home in jazz, classical, and crossover projects, collaborating with artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Renée Fleming, and the Emerson String Quartet. Previn composed concertos, chamber music, and operas, and remained active as a pianist into his later years. He died in 2019.
