Bio
Klaus Schulze (1947–2022) was a pioneering German electronic musician whose work helped shape the development of ambient, space, and electronic music. Beginning his career as a drummer with the early krautrock bands Ash Ra Tempel and Tangerine Dream, he soon turned to solo projects that emphasized synthesizers, sequencers, and expansive sonic textures. Over a five-decade career, Schulze released dozens of albums, including the influential “Irrlicht” (1972) and the epic double album “Time Actor” (1977). His music blended long-form compositions with evolving electronic timbres, influencing generations of ambient and new-age artists. Schulze continued to innovate into the 21st century, exploring surround-sound concert presentations and collaborations with artists such as Lisa Gerrard. He remained an iconic figure in electronic music until his death in 2022.
