Bio
The O'Jays are an American R&B vocal group formed in Canton, Ohio in 1958. Originally known as The Triumphs and later The Mascots, the lineup that achieved fame consisted of Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, William Powell, Bobby Massey, and Bill Isles. They became one of the principal acts of Philadelphia International Records and helped define the Philly soul sound of the 1970s. The group scored major hits with songs such as "Back Stabbers," "Love Train," and "For the Love of Money," many written and produced by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Their music blended smooth harmonies with socially conscious lyrics, earning them lasting recognition in the soul genre. The O'Jays were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
