Bio
Dame Emma Kirkby is an English soprano renowned for her pure, agile voice and her central role in the historically informed performance movement. Since the 1970s she has been a leading interpreter of Baroque and Renaissance repertoire, collaborating with ensembles such as the Academy of Ancient Music, the Taverner Consort, and the Consort of Musicke. Her extensive discography spans works by Purcell, Handel, Bach, Monteverdi, and Dowland, and she has appeared on hundreds of recordings that helped define the sound of period-instrument performance. Kirkby was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2007 in recognition of her services to music.
