Wes (full name Wes Madiko) was a Cameroonian singer and songwriter born in Douala on 15 January 1964. He gained international recognition in the 1990s with his fusion of traditional Cameroonian music and contemporary dance rhythms, most notably through the hit single “Alane.” Wes released several albums blending African sounds with pop and world-music elements, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the African music scene. He passed away on 25 June 2021.
