Bio
Grandmaster Flash, born Joseph Saddler on January 1, 1958, in Bridgetown, Barbados, is an American DJ and producer who grew up in the Bronx, New York. He is widely recognized as a pioneering figure in hip-hop, credited with developing key turntable techniques such as scratching, punch phrasing, and backspinning. In the late 1970s, he formed Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, whose 1982 single "The Message" became one of the first socially conscious rap records and helped establish hip-hop as a serious art form. His innovations in mixing and performance laid the foundation for modern DJ culture and earned him induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
