Bio

Caetano Veloso is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and one of the principal architects of the Tropicália movement that emerged in the late 1960s. Born in Santo Amaro, Bahia, he blended traditional Brazilian genres such as bossa nova, samba, and MPB with international influences ranging from rock to concrete poetry, creating a distinctly modern and politically charged sound. His career spans more than five decades and includes landmark albums such as the 1968 manifesto Tropicália ou Panis et Circencis and the introspective Caetano Veloso (1969). Despite periods of exile during Brazil’s military dictatorship, Veloso has remained a central figure in Brazilian culture, continually reinterpreting the country’s musical heritage while addressing contemporary social issues.
