Bio

Big Pokey (1974–2023) was a Houston-based rapper and a key figure in the city’s chopped-and-screwed and southern hip-hop scenes. He first gained attention as a member of the Screwed Up Click collective, releasing a string of underground mixtapes and albums that showcased his gravelly delivery and vivid storytelling. His catalog includes the 1999 debut Hardest Pit in the Litter and later projects such as The Hardest Pit in the Litter 2 and D.O.P.E. (Depend on People Everywhere). Big Pokey remained an influential voice in Texas rap until his death in 2023.
