Jagjit Singh (1941–2011) was an Indian singer and composer renowned for reviving the ghazal genre in the late 20th century. Born in Rajasthan, he trained in classical music and began his career in Mumbai, where his emotive voice and minimalist style brought ghazals to mainstream audiences across India and abroad. Beyond ghazals, Singh recorded devotional bhajans, Sufi qawwalis, and film songs, often collaborating with his wife, Chitra Singh. His work remains widely regarded for its poetic sensitivity and melodic clarity, establishing him as one of the most influential Indian vocalists of his generation.
