El-P, born Jaime Meline on March 2, 1975, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American hip hop artist and producer. He first gained recognition in the 1990s as a member of the influential underground group Company Flow, known for their raw, experimental sound. After the group disbanded, he founded the independent label Definitive Jux and released several solo albums that helped define the experimental hip hop genre. Throughout his career, El-P has been noted for his dense, layered production style and politically charged lyricism. He has collaborated extensively with artists such as Killer Mike, with whom he formed the duo Run the Jewels, and has produced for a wide range of musicians. His work is characterized by innovative beats and a commitment to independent hip hop culture.
