Bio
Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1964. The group rose to fame in the 1970s with hits such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird," becoming one of the leading acts of the southern rock movement. Their sound blends blues, country, and hard rock, characterized by extended guitar solos and three-guitar lineups. After a 1977 plane crash that killed lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and two other members, the band reformed in the late 1980s with surviving members and new vocalists. They have released multiple studio albums and continue to tour, maintaining a large following in classic rock circles. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
