Bio

Giovanni Sgambati (1841–1914) was an Italian pianist, conductor, and composer born in Rome. He studied with Franz Liszt and became a leading figure in Italy’s late-Romantic musical life, championing the music of Liszt, Wagner, and Beethoven through his performances and conducting. Sgambati composed symphonies, chamber music, and numerous piano works, including the celebrated “Te Deum” and several piano concertos, blending Italian lyricism with the structural rigor of the German tradition.
