Burt Bacharach was an American composer, songwriter, and pianist whose sophisticated melodies and lush arrangements defined popular music from the 1960s onward. Working closely with lyricist Hal David, he created a string of enduring hits for Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, and many others, including “Walk On By,” “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head.” His style blended classical influences, jazz harmonies, and pop sensibility, earning him six Grammy Awards and three Academy Awards. Bacharach’s songs have been recorded by hundreds of artists across genres and remain staples of adult-contemporary and easy-listening playlists.
