Véronique Gens is a French soprano renowned for her interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire. Born in Orléans in 1966, she first gained international attention through her collaborations with conductors such as William Christie and Marc Minkowski, appearing in landmark productions of works by Lully, Rameau, and Mozart. Her discography includes acclaimed recordings of French mélodie and opera, notably her complete traversal of Poulenc songs and leading roles in Gluck’s Alceste and Iphigénie en Tauride. Gens is also noted for her performances of 19th-century French opera, bringing a distinctive clarity and dramatic insight to heroines of Berlioz, Gounod, and Massenet.
