Edwyn Collins is a Scottish singer-songwriter and musician born in Edinburgh in 1959. He first gained prominence as the frontman of the 1980s band Orange Juice, whose jangly guitar sound and literate lyrics helped shape the indie-pop movement. After the group disbanded, Collins launched a solo career that peaked commercially with the 1994 single "A Girl Like You," a worldwide hit that showcased his distinctive baritone and knack for catchy hooks. In 2005 Collins suffered a cerebral hemorrhage that left him unable to speak or play guitar, yet he made a remarkable recovery and returned to recording. His later albums, including the reflective "Losing Sleep" (2010) and "Understated" (2013), document both his physical rehabilitation and continued creative vitality, cementing his reputation as one of Britain’s most resilient and influential songwriters.
