Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter known for his visually opulent Bollywood films. Born in 1965 in Mumbai, he began his career as an assistant director before making his directorial debut with Khamoshi: The Musical in 1996. His subsequent works, including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, and Bajirao Mastani, are celebrated for their lavish production design, elaborate costumes, and sweeping musical scores. Beyond directing, Bhansali has composed music for several of his films, blending classical Indian traditions with contemporary Bollywood sensibilities. His soundtracks often feature intricate orchestration and collaborations with leading playback singers, contributing to the enduring popularity of songs from films such as Black, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, and Gangubai Kathiawadi.
