Bio
Rudolf Firkušný (1912–1994) was a Czech-born pianist renowned for his interpretations of the classical and Romantic repertoire. Born in Napajedla, he studied in Brno and later in Prague, establishing himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation before emigrating to the United States in 1940. Throughout his career he appeared with major orchestras worldwide and recorded extensively for labels such as Columbia and Deutsche Grammophon. Firkušný was especially admired for his performances of Czech composers, notably Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů, and he maintained an active concert schedule until shortly before his death in 1994.
