Manu Chao is a French singer-songwriter born in Paris in 1961. He first gained recognition in the 1980s as frontman of the rock band Mano Negra, blending punk, rock, and world-music influences. After the group disbanded, Chao launched a solo career that fused Latin rhythms, reggae, and socially conscious lyrics, most notably on the 1998 album Clandestino. His music, performed in multiple languages, has made him a prominent figure in the Latin-alternative scene.
