Bio

Benjamin Britten (1913–1976) was an English composer, conductor and pianist born in Lowestoft, Suffolk. He rose to prominence in the mid-20th century with operas such as Peter Grimes (1945) and Billy Budd, and his War Requiem remains one of the most performed choral works of the era. Britten co-founded the Aldeburgh Festival with Peter Pears and frequently collaborated with him as both performer and dedicatee. His style blends tonal clarity, folk influences and modernist techniques, spanning opera, orchestral, chamber and vocal music. He was awarded the Order of Merit and a life peerage shortly before his death.
