Bio
Giovanni Sollima (born 24 October 1962, Palermo) is an Italian cellist and composer whose work fuses classical technique with minimalist and Mediterranean influences. Trained at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Musikhochschule in Cologne, he has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras and collaborated with artists ranging from Yo-Yo Ma to Philip Glass. Sollima’s compositions often explore Sicilian folk motifs and contemporary minimalism, and he is also active as a conductor and educator.
