Cyprien Katsaris

Bio

Cyprien Katsaris is a French-Cypriot pianist born in Marseille in 1951. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and gained international recognition after winning the International Young Pianists' Competition in Berlin in 1969 and the First Prize at the Cziffra Competition in 1974. Katsaris is known for his wide-ranging repertoire that spans from Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular affinity for Romantic composers such as Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann. He has performed with major orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, and New York Philharmonic, and has collaborated with conductors such as Leonard Bernstein and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Katsaris is also noted for his transcriptions and arrangements for solo piano, including his own versions of orchestral works. He has recorded extensively for labels including Teldec, Sony Classical, and Piano 21, which he founded in 2001.
