The Blow Monkeys are a British pop band formed in London in 1981. Fronted by singer-songwriter Dr. Robert (Robert Howard), the group blended soul, jazz, and new-wave influences, achieving mainstream success in the mid-1980s with hits such as "Digging Your Scene" and "It Doesn’t Have to Be This Way." Their 1986 album She Was Only a Grocer’s Daughter reached the UK Top 20 and featured the UK Top 5 single "It Doesn’t Have to Be This Way." After a hiatus in the early 1990s, the band reunited in the 2000s and have continued to release new material while maintaining a dedicated following. Their sound is characterized by sharp lyrics, sophisticated arrangements, and Dr. Robert’s distinctive vocal style.
