Bio

Grover Washington, Jr. was an American saxophonist and composer whose work helped define the smooth jazz genre. Born in Buffalo, New York, he began playing saxophone as a child and later moved to Philadelphia, where he became a prominent session musician and bandleader. His breakthrough came with the 1975 album Mister Magic, which showcased his warm tone and melodic style. Subsequent releases such as Winelight (1980) and the hit single "Just the Two of Us" brought him mainstream success and established him as a leading figure in soul jazz and contemporary jazz during the 1970s and 1980s.
