Roger Miller

Bio

Roger Miller (1936–1992) was an American singer, songwriter, and actor best known for his 1965 hit “King of the Road.” Born in Fort Worth, Texas, he grew up in Oklahoma and began his career as a Nashville songwriter before launching a string of novelty-tinged country singles in the 1960s. His witty, word-play-heavy songs such as “Dang Me,” “England Swings,” and “Chug-a-Lug” earned him multiple Grammy Awards and established him as a distinctive voice in country music. Miller also wrote the Broadway musical “Big River,” which won several Tony Awards in 1985. Beyond recording, he appeared in films and on television variety shows, maintaining a colorful public persona until his death from lung cancer in 1992.
