Bio
Youssou N'Dour is a Senegalese singer, songwriter, and percussionist born in Dakar in 1959. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern African music, blending traditional Senegalese mbalax rhythms with elements of pop, jazz, and rock to create a distinctive sound known as afropop. N'Dour began performing at a young age and rose to prominence in the 1970s with the band Étoile de Dakar. Over the decades, he has collaborated with numerous international artists and released albums that have brought African music to global audiences. His work often addresses social and political themes, reflecting his deep connection to Senegalese culture and identity.
