Bio

Mike Skinner, known professionally as The Streets, is an English rapper, singer, and record producer born in Barnet, United Kingdom, on 27 November 1978. He rose to prominence in the early 2000s with a distinctive style that fused UK garage, hip-hop, and spoken-word storytelling, chronicling everyday British life. His debut album, Original Pirate Material (2002), was widely acclaimed for its raw, documentary-like approach and helped establish him as a key figure in UK urban music. Subsequent releases such as A Grand Don’t Come for Free (2004) and The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living (2006) continued to explore personal and social themes, often presented as concept albums. Skinner has remained active both as a solo artist and through occasional collaborations, maintaining a reputation for sharp lyricism and innovative production within the UK garage and alternative hip-hop scenes.
