Bio

Diomedes Díaz (1957–2013) was a Colombian vallenato singer and composer from La Guajira, widely regarded as one of the genre’s most influential voices. Over a career spanning four decades he recorded more than thirty albums, blending traditional accordion-driven vallenato with the emerging champeta rhythms of the Caribbean coast. His warm baritone and heartfelt lyrics about love, rural life, and social themes earned him the nickname “El Cacique de La Junta.” Díaz’s work helped popularize vallenato beyond Colombia, influencing generations of artists and cementing the genre’s place in Latin American popular music.
