Steel Pulse is a British roots reggae band formed in Birmingham in 1975. Emerging from the UK’s West Indian community, the group became known for politically charged lyrics addressing racism, social injustice, and Rastafarian themes. Their debut album Handsworth Revolution (1978) established them as a leading voice in British reggae, blending traditional Jamaican rhythms with rock and dub influences. Over four decades the band has released numerous albums and toured extensively, maintaining a reputation for powerful live performances and consistent advocacy for human rights. Steel Pulse remains one of the most enduring and influential reggae acts to originate outside Jamaica.
