Joe Cocker (1944–2014) was an English singer and musician known for his gritty, soulful voice and energetic stage presence. Born in Sheffield, he rose to prominence in the late 1960s with a cover of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends,” which became his signature hit. His performances at Woodstock in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival further cemented his reputation as a powerful live performer. Throughout his career, Cocker blended rock, blues, and soul, releasing numerous albums and collaborating with artists across genres. Hits such as “You Are So Beautiful” and “Up Where We Belong” (a duet with Jennifer Warnes) brought him international success and multiple awards. He continued recording and touring until shortly before his death in 2014.
