Sir John Pritchard (1921–1989) was a British conductor renowned for his work in opera and orchestral music. Born in Walthamstow, he began his career as a répétiteur at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, later becoming its Music Director and leading many acclaimed productions. Pritchard also served as Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and he held posts with major companies including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the Cologne Opera. His recordings and performances are noted for their clarity, precision, and deep commitment to both the standard repertoire and contemporary works.
