Bio
Enrico Macias is a French singer-songwriter of Algerian-Jewish descent, born Gaston Ghrenassia in Constantine in 1938. He rose to prominence in the 1960s with a series of romantic ballads and Mediterranean-inflected chansons that blended French variété with North African influences. Over a career spanning more than six decades, Macias has released dozens of albums and singles, maintaining a large following in France and throughout the Francophone world. His work is characterized by warm vocal delivery and themes of love, exile, and cultural identity.
